South Gujarat University has its campus in the historical city of Surat. The
University has a campus spread over 250 acers (additional 150 acers have
been put under reservation. At the time of incorporation in May 1967, it
comprised of 21 colleges and 12,290 students. The University now has more
than 70 Degree colleges in Arts, Commerce, Science, Education, Law,
Medicine, Engineering, Physical Education, Computer and Information
Technology. As of 2004-5 total number of students enrolled for Under Graduate
Courses are 83181 and post Graduate courses including M.Phil. / Ph.D. is
7081 in different subjects under various faculties
It also has departments of
Bio-sciences, Chemistry, Continuing Education, English,
Education, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Research Methodology
and interdisciplinary Study in Social Sciences, Sociology,
Statistics and Business and Industrial Management. Master’s
Degree Programs in Electronics, Human Resources Development,
Labor Welfare, Corporative Literature, Computer Application are
offered besides Master’s Degree Programme in various traditional
subject like English, Physics, Sociology, Education etc.
Post-Graduate diploma course in Journalism, Human Resources
Development, Computer Application, Quantitative Management as
well programs leading to Bachelor’s and Master‘s degree in
Library Science are also offered.
The university has also well
equipped university library, computer centre and health centre
which cater to the needs of the students and staff members. A
few seats are available in Boys' hostel and Girls' hostel on the
campus.
