The University started the P.G. Diploma course in Computer
Application ( D.C.A. ) in 1987 - 1988 with the initial help of
U.G.C. and D.O.E. Govt. of India and subsequent support by the
State Government. Three-year Master Degree course in Computer
Application ( M.C.A. ) was started in 1990 with U.G.C. grant and
commitment of subsequent support by the State Government. At
present the Department runs M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes in
Computer Science, M.C.A. and D.C.A. From the academic year
1998-99 the Department has also started a part-time D.C.A. (
evening ) programme. The Department has at present 1 Professor,
1 Reader and 7 Lecturers. Besides these 1 faculty positions ( 2
Readers ) which are vacant at present, shall be filled shortly.
Some guest faculty also participates in the teaching programme
as per need.

M.C.A. And D.C.A. Programmes :
The M.C.A. programme aims to train the
students as System Managers and Analysts for Computer managed
Systems in Industries and Government Organizations. The D.C.A.
programme aims at producing efficient computer programmers
through a course of shorter duration.
D.C.A. (
Evening ) Programme :
For the benefit of those graduates who can
not join a course during daytime regular hours, a part time (
evening ) D.C.A. programme was started from academic year
1998-99. The part-time programme is a three-semester programme,
last three months of which are devoted by the students to
Project work done in an Industry/Organization. The evening
programme is run on a Cost-Sharing basis and, therefore, these
students have to pay higher fees.

D.C.A. ( Evening ) Programme :
For the benefit of
those graduates who can not join a course during daytime regular
hours, a part time ( evening ) D.C.A. programme was started from
academic year 1998-99. The part-time programme is a
three-semester programme, last three months of which are devoted
by the students to Project work done in an
Industry/Organization. The evening programme is run on a
Cost-Sharing basis and, therefore, these students have to pay
higher fees. Some courses as, in regular DCA, given above shall
be taught in DCA ( Evening ) Programme. The courses will
normally be given between 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. from Monday to

About The M.C.A. Entrance Test

About the Test for D.C.A. & Part Time DCA
The written examinations is designed to assess
the following aspects of candidate’s
capabilities.
Although students of all faculties can appear
in the Written test, candidate should note that
a high school level mathematical ability is
expected. In their own interest candidates are
advised to go through syllabus for ‘
Quantitative ability’ and the two Model Written
Test Paper provided in section III of this
bulletin, and ensure that they have the
requisite mathematical and analytical ability
expected.
The Written Test is objective type. Normally
five choices ( 1,2,3,4,5 ) will be given for
each question and the candidate is required to
put his choice in the box against that question
number on a separate answer - sheet. A correct
answer carries 1 mark while an incorrect answer
carries -0.25 marks. A sample answer sheet is
enclosed at the end of this bulletin, along with
"Application Forms" for the full time courses as
well as for the part - time courses .
In section IV of the bulletin we give a
full-length model question paper to acquaint the
candidates with the general pattern of questions
in the Written Test.
Admission Procedure
Admission to MCA will be done through Gujarat
Common Entrance Test ( GCET ) only
Admission Procedure :
The candidate seeking admission should apply on the
prescribed application form provided at the end of this
prospectus
The candidate should clearly indicate ( in item 3 of the
application form ) whether he/she is applying for
full-time courses only or D.C.A. ( part time ) only or
for both.
The admission to D.C.A. full time programmes and D.C.A.
( part time ) programme are done on the basis of merit
determined by
(i) Common Written test conducted by the university, and
(ii) Personal interview
Candidates will be shortlisted in all statutary reserved
categories on the basis of their performance in the
written test. The shortlisted candidates will have to
appear for personal interview at Surat on a
pre-announced date and time. In the personal interview,
the candidates shall be assessed mainly with regard to "
Communication ability " and " general awareness about
Information Technology "
The " Final Merit List " of the shortlisted candidates
shall be prepared on the basis of the performance in the
written test ( 80% weightage ) and personal interview (
20% weightage ). Admissions to all courses DCA/DCA (
part-time) shall be done on the basis of the final merit
list.
The final merit list shall be declared on a
pre-announced date and the candidates from various
categories shall be called to the university in order of
merit ( in the final merit list ) according to a
time-table to be announced at the time of declaration of
the final merit list.
A candidate will be allowed to choose any of the course
( from the courses for which he/she has applied ) and
the centre from the available courses and/or centers at
the time when his/her trn comes.

In each of D.C.A. and D.C.A (part-time) courses in both
lower and higher fee
categories, the reservation of seats in various
categories shall be as follows :
1. S.C. 7 %
2. S.T. 14 %
3. O.B.C. ( Not Belong to Creamy Layer ) 27 %
4. Physically Handicapped 3 %
In addition to above statutory reservations the
following reservations have been made effective, for
admission to D.C.A. and D.C.A. ( part-time ) programmes,
for academic year 2001 - 2002
5% of the total seats will be for NRI category
For D.C.A. Programme
1. Regular Seats at the University
Department & Lower Fees category of self
Finace Institutions :
50% seats shall be reserved for the students
who have passed H.S.C. examination from
schools located in thVeer Narmad South
Gujarat University area, 50% seats shall be
reserved for the graduates ofVeer Narmad
South Gujarat University.
2. D.C.A. ( part-time ) seats of the
University Department and Higher fee
category seats of Self Finace Institutions :
100% seats shall be open for the graduates
of any university.
