The Department of Business and Industrial management draws on many years of success. The department was established in july 1970 on the recommendation of the AICTE and necessary permission and grant from the UGC. Initially it was offering three year PGDBM to working executives. The two year full time MBA Degree programme has been offered since july 1977. It also offers three-year part time MBA Degree Programme along with M.Phil and Ph.D Degree Progammes. These years of experience in teaching, research and consultancy has enabled us to equip our students to take on any changes that might come their way. The two years of viperous training and participative learning would stand them in good stead in an organization. Our students would not only make a useful contribution in any organization they are associated with, but make a lasting impact.

 

Infrastructure
 

THE COMPUTER LAB :

 The computer lab is well equipped with 15 node LAN with Novell and WinNT. We have the latest software like

    • Oracle 8, Oracle Designer 2000
    • Power Builder 6,
    • Simscript II.5,
    • Tally EIS-4, Personel-Accountant (EX),
    • MS Project etc.

The Lab also provides Internet access.

 
Library
 
Departmental Library has a unique collection of more than 5000 Indian as well as internationally acclaimed management titles. We subscribe to various prominent national and international periodicals, Journals and business dailies. The Journals that we subscribe to number 40. The library maintains the collection of all presentations assignments, seminars and project reports made by the students.

 

 

 
COURSES OFFERED AND COURSE   RELATED INFORMATION

1. THE MBA PROGRAMME :  

The two year MBA programme is spread over four semesters. The curriculumn and coursework is very consciously designed and is learning methodology comprises of various learning activities for substantial value addition. The case studies are in context to the theoretical framework and are contemporary. In order to acquaint students with the practical implications of what they study in the class room students are required to undertake and more project/s in each subject. Again stressing on the ‘learning by doing’ aspects we have workshops conducted by experts in their field  such as copywriters, layout artists, software, developers, psychologists, etc. The participants are compulsorily required to complete a 10 week summer training and on 8 week winter training so hat they are able to assimilate all they have been taught in the first and second year respectively. Apart from the above classroom lectures and discussions, examinations and self study also are important components in the learning programme.

Eligibility Criteria
 

In order to be eligible, for admission to MBA full time and evening programmes – a candidate must –

(a)                    be graduate of a recognised university having secured in his first degree examination at least 50% marks in the aggregate of all the marks taken together including internals.

OR

has appeared at his/her graduation examination in May-June 2001. In this case, he/she will have to produce evidence of his/her score of 50 % at graduation examination, at the time of joining the programme. Those candidates who have failed to secure 50 % in the aggregate and have applied for re-assessment is not declared at the time of admission.

(b)                   have taken written and oral test as may be given for selection purpose.

(c)                    In addition to the above, a candidate seeking admission to MBA Evening Programme must have a minimum of one year experience after passing the degree examination at least at junior executive level in any business or industrial enterprise, government or semi-government enterprise or public corporation or public utility concern including service sector, government organizations and educational institutions.

Note :

(1)          Students who have passed their degree examinations as “EXTERNAL CANDIDATE ARE NOT ELIGIBLE” for the admission to MBA Programme.

(2)          Students with three or more year of graduation programme are eligible for admission.

Admission Procedure
 

I.  All the candidate desirous of admission will have to obtain prescribed application form from various centres on payment of Rs. 400/- per form.

II   Application completed in all respects must be erceived in the office of the Department of Business & Industrial Management,Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat on or before 2nd July, 2001. Applications received after july 2 2001 will be rejected.

III.  All applicants eligible for admission will be sent an intimation to appear at written test at such date, time and at the centre in surat, as may be decided. No requests will be entertained for exemption from written test on any ground whatsoever.                                                                                                                                                                                            

IV.  The Test is to take place on 7th July, 2001 at the test centres at Surat to be intimated to the eligible candidates and would be followed by group discussion, personal interview.

V.    The required number of candidated will be finally selected for admission from out of those who appear at the Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

VI.    On the basis of total MARKS obtained by a candidate in written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (duly weighted as per the University rule), a common merit list and merit list for each category of candidates will be prepared. The seats to different centres (1. The Department of Business and Industrial Management, SGU, Surat. 2. S.R. Luthra Institute of Management Studies, Athwalines Surat. 3. GIDC ROFEL Institute of Management studies, Vapi. 4. Narmada College of Management, Bharuch will be allocated on the basis of the merit of a candidate and the choice of the centre of the candidate subject to availability of the seat at a given centre as per the following procedure.

1.      1..The seats will be allocated to different centres on the basis of merit-cum-choice of the candidates. The sequence of allotment of seats will be in the following order :

(1)     (1)          ST (2) SC (3) OBC (4) PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED (5) GENERAL

2.      2.Candidate once having exercised his/her choice of a centre and fees, will not be permitted to change  later.

3.      3.Fees once paid will be refunded as per the rules of refund prevailing at various centres including Department of Business and Industrial Management,Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat.

4.        4.After the admission closes, each centre can fill the seats against seats on which any candidate withdraws admission in writing but no admission should be given after one month from the commencement of classes.

5.      5.Finally, each centre will provide a list to the university giving details of the candidates admitted under different fees system and under different categories.

6.      6.Each centre would ensure that it has not admitted more candidates than the permitted quota under high fees category and low fees category.

  7. The new admissions against withdrawals will be given in the high fees category  with the  understanding that first candidate and later in that sequence, the other  candidates who  have taken admission under high fees category will be shifted to low fees category.

 

 

Reservation of Seats
 
A.                      As per the rules of the Government of Gujarat.

·                      Foreign Students : Three seats for scholarship holders and self financing foreign students put together. (These seats are available only at DBIM, SGU, Surat.)

·                      Self-supporting foreign students should send their applications alongwith ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) through the Ministry of Education. Governmen of India, after getting clearance from the ministry of External Affairs. Applications without NOC will be rejected.

·                      Schedule Caste : Seven percent

·                      Schedule Tribe : Fourteen percent

·                      Socially and Educationally Backward Classes of Gujarat declared as such by The Baxi Panch : Twenty Seven percent.

·                      Physically Handicaped : Three percent

B.                       Fee Category wise Reservation * (provisional)

(a)                   MBA (F.T.) at DBIM

Regular University Fee Category Intake : 30+3

100 % for those who have either graduated from SGU or have done HSC from schools located in SGU area.

(b)               MBA (Evening) at DBIM

Intake : 30

50% for those who have either graduated from SGU or have done HSC from SGU area or both.

50 % for graduates of other universities including SGU.

(c)                    Institutions under self-supporting system (with the Intake of 60 students

Part-I Low Fees Category

50% for those who have either graduated from SGU or have done their HSC from SGU area.

Part-II High Fees Category

35% open for graduates of any universities including SGU.

10 % for those who have done BBA from SGU.

5 % for NRI’s or NRI sponsored candidates.

If all the seats reserved for SC/ST students are not filled in by the candidates from such classes such vacancies may be filled in by the applicants belonging to the general category.
